Non-Urgent Elective Surgeries in Australia Cancelled

As the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic continues to spread, health services within Australia and around the globe are being pushed to capacity to care for the critically ill. Find out what elective surgeries have been cancelled.

Unfortunately, this has resulted in the Australian government cancelling most elective surgeries nationwide. The decision was made on March 25th to help the medical system prepare for an influx of COVID-19 cases and to preserve personal protection equipment such as surgical masks and scrubs.

Elective surgeries are those that are medically necessary, but are not an emergency and are often referred to as category 2 and category 3 surgeries.

Common elective procedures include:

  • Cosmetic surgeries such as tummy tucks, rhinoplasty, breast augmentation, excess skin removal and liposuction
  • Orthopaedic surgeries such as knee and hip replacements
  • Urological surgeries on the bladder and kidneys
  • Cardiovascular surgeries such as angioplasty
  • Exploratory surgeriesSurgeries which are considered urgent are classed as category 1 and these have not been cancelled

What should you do if your surgery has been cancelled?

To check what category your upcoming surgery is and if your surgery has been cancelled, please contact your surgeon or health care practitioner.

All Bodyment orders are still being fulfilled but due to the pandemic, some medical supply chains are being repurposed and our suppliers are facing delays. Therefore if you have not ordered, we cannot guarantee that your garment will be available when your surgery does go ahead. All orders will be distributed on a first come basis and we are unable to hold stock.

If your surgery has been postponed and you have purchased a Bodyment garment we strongly recommend you keep your garment. If you have a surgery that has been rescheduled, or planned for later in the year please order as soon as possible.

If you require urgent assistance please have your surgeon or practitioner contact us directly.
