Lap Band Surgery
A lap band is an inflatable silicone band that’s surgically placed around the top of the stomach to limit its ability to expand. It physically restricts the amount of food you can eat before feeling full, so you eat less and lose weight over time. Lap band surgery is performed laparoscopically (through several incisions less than 1 cm long), so it’s minimally invasive—but it still requires general anesthesia. The procedure typically takes less than 45 minutes.
